MOF appoints Wan Mohd Fadzmi as Labuan FSA chairman


LABUAN: Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah has been appointed as the chairman of the Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA), effective Jan 1, 2024, for a two-year term.

In a statement today, the Labuan FSA said Wan Mohd Fadzmi was appointed by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to succeed Datuk Siti Zainab Omar, who retired in May 2023.

With a career spanning over 25 years in the finance industry, Wan Mohd Fadzmi, a seasoned professional banker, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

His career commenced in Melbourne, Australia, as a Cost Estimator with Peter Slattery & Co in March 1986.

Returning to Malaysia in 1988, he joined Malayan Banking Berhad (MBB), where he held various senior management positions, including chief executive officer/country head for the bank’s operations in London, New York, and Hong Kong.

Subsequently, Wan Mohd Fadzmi joined RHB Bank Berhad as the director of the Global Financial Banking Strategic Business Group, overseeing international banking operations in Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei Darussalam.

He served as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd from July 2011 to August 2017, leading its operations across 188 outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

Currently, he holds key chairmanship and directorship positions in various banking institutions and public and private companies.

Notably, Wan Mohd Fadzmi serves as the independent non-executive chairman of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (M) Berhad, and independent non-executive director of Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad, and VS International Group Limited.

He is also a member of the Investment Panel at Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT).

Wan Mohd Fadzmi has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Outstanding CEO 2017 from The Association Development Financial Institution in Asia Pacific in Macau, China, CEO of the Year at the Global Islamic Finance Award 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Islamic Retail Banking Leadership Award at the 3rd Islamic Retail Banking Awards 2017 in Dubai, UAE.

He holds a Bachelor of Construction Economics from RMIT University, Australia, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA, as well as the Senior Executive Finance Programme at Templeton College, University of Oxford, UK.

Wan Mohd Fadzmi is a chartered banker at the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, a Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance, and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia. - Bernama
