HANOI: Nestle Vietnam has announced an additional investment of US$100mil to double the processing capacity of high-quality coffee lines at its Nestle Tri An factory in the southern province of Dong Nai.

This brings the total investment capital at the factory to more than US$500mil.

The additional investment in the Nestle Tri An factory will help increase capacity to meet the rising demand for coffee, and help the Vietnamese market maintain its high-quality coffee production and supply for both domestic and international markets.

Coffee products produced at Nestle Tri An have been exported to 29 countries and territories around the world. In addition, Nestle is also the largest coffee purchasing company with an annual purchase of up to US$700mil.

Nestle Vietnam general-director Binu Jacob said: “The project is a testament to Nestle’s long-term investment commitment in Vietnam.

“It is expected that when the project comes fully into operation, the factory’s capacity will double, thereby meeting the domestic market’s consumer demand and effectively exploiting the export potential.

“Through this project, we also hope to create many job opportunities and continue to expand long-term investments in Vietnam, contributing to the sustainable economic development and prosperity of the country.”

REDUCING YOUR ENERGY FOOTPRINT

Sustainable coffee production is one of Nestle’s key drivers in Vietnam.

The Nestle Tri An factory is a pioneer in sustainable development through the use of clean energy, biomass energy and application of circular economy in waste management and water resource conservation.

Each year, the Nestle Tri An factory reduces carbon dioxide emissions from coffee processing by more than 14,000 tonnes.

Wastewater from the coffee production process is also treated, recycled and reused in the boiler, helping the factory save more than 112,000 cubic metres of water each year.

To contribute to improving the quality of Vietnamese coffee beans, since 2011, Nestle has implemented the Nescafe Plan programme in the Central Highlands region.

The programme has brought positive solutions to sustainably develop the Vietnamese coffee industry from distributing high-quality seedlings, farming according to regenerative agricultural practices, and protecting water resources.

“With a sustainable business strategy, Nestle Vietnam not only creates nutritional products, improves the quality of life of Vietnamese people, increases the value of the country’s coffee beans, but also protects and regenerates resources for future generations,” Binu said.

The Nestle Group has invested nearly US$830mil through Nestle Vietnam Co Ltd with four factories and two distribution centres.

In Dong Nai Province alone, the company is operating three factories, of which Nestle Tri An is one of the largest in Vietnam.

It is also one of the coffee processing factories with the most modern technology in the region.

Currently, the factory produces coffee products with brands like Nescafe, Nescafe Dolce Gusto, Nespresso, Starbucks and Blue Bottle. In December, Nestle Vietnam was ranked first in Top Most Sustainable Enterprise in Vietnam in the manufacturing sector by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development, voted for by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. — Viet Nam News/ANN
