PETALING JAYA: Bermaz Auto Bhd (BAuto) has won the rights of distributorship, sale of spare parts and provision of after-sales services of XPeng smart electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia from Shenzhen Xiaopeng Motors Supply Chain Management Co Ltd, China (Shenzhen XPeng) and Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Trading Co Ltd, China (Guangzhou XPeng).

As principal distributors, Shenzhen XPeng and Guangzhou XPeng oversee the distribution and sales of the XPeng EVs, sale of spare parts and merchandising, as well as provision of after-sales services globally for the vehicle.

They are affiliates of Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Co Ltd (XPeng Motors), the manufacturer of the XPeng smart EVs which is headquartered in Guangzhou, with offices also in Mountain View, California and Munich.

Expressing his excitement with the partnership award, BAuto chief executive Datuk Francis Lee Kok Chuan said the XPeng marque of vehicles are among the top smart EVs in China, as well as globally.

“They are equipped with the latest state of the art features such as autonomous driving technology, digital cockpits and high performance batteries.

“The smart EVs’ Navigation Guided Pilot software offers autonomous-driving capability and can navigate in major cities in China such as Beijing and Shanghai,” he said.

Meanwhile, Xpeng founder and chief executive He Xiaopeng revealed that the XPeng group intends to expand its business operations over the next three years with the company’s current product line-up of award-winning smart EVs, including the P7i, P5, G9 and the newly launched flagship multipurpose vehicle, the X9.

He commented that artificial intelligence is the key area of investment, designed to make the group’s smart EVs more efficient, convenient and accessible to appeal to the large and growing base of technology-savvy middle-class consumers.

“Our mission is to drive smart EV transformation with technology, shaping the mobility experience of the future and to optimise our customers’ mobility experience.”

BAuto’s Lee said the new distributorship will complement the company’s existing EV business and will bring positive synergistic benefits to all parties.

“It is also in line with our group’s sustainability initiatives to manage and minimise our environmental footprint by introducing more green vehicles and technologies,” he said.
