LZS distributes RM1.15bil in zakat for 2023

PETALING JAYA: Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) distributed RM1.15bil in zakat for the year ended Dec 31, 2023, benefitting more than 350,000 asnaf individuals and various organisations in Selangor.

In a statement, LZS said it made the zakat distributions across eight asnaf categories in 2023, reflecting an increase of 9.7% from RM1.05bil in the previous year.

“Of these categories, the largest beneficiaries were 70,600 families within the fakir, miskin and muallaf segment during this period,” it said.

Cognisant of the current socio-economic challenges, LZS said these zakat distributions were channelled towards fostering the development of asnaf through five key pillars including social development, educational development, religious institution development, human development and economic development.
