PETALING JAYA: Hartalega Holdings Bhd announced the results of its inaugural life assessment study on the carbon footprint of three of its key glove products, including the BDG Nitrile Biodegradable Glove, Standard Nitrile Glove, and COATS Colloidal Oatmeal Coated Glove.
In a statement, Hartalega said it was the first glove manufacturer in the industry to publicly disclose the reviewed carbon footprint data for its products, further cementing further its commitment to drive environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices while achieving greater transparency in sustainable glove productions.
It added that the disclosure also reinforced leadership in embedding sustainability into its operations and products.
Hartalega chief executive officer Kuan Mun Leong said the group had a responsibility to minimise its environmental impact as a glove manufacturer.
“In line with our commitment to ESG, transparency about our carbon emissions is vital for driving improvements and accelerating our sustainability initiatives.
“The life cycle assessment provides a baseline for us to identify further opportunities to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency across our operations and supply chain.
“We will continue raising the bar for ESG best practices in the glove manufacturing sector,” he said.
Kuan added the group will continue to invest in research and development and operational excellence to develop innovative and eco-friendly glove products, while reducing environmental impact.
Using data from July 2021 until June 2022, the study covered the life cycle from raw material acquisition to the production of finished gloves leaving the glove manufacturer’s factories.
The study followed international ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.
Hartalega said its Standard Nitrile Glove 3.2g released 0.034073 emissions, the COATS Colloidal Oatmeal Coated Glove 3.2g released 0.034078 emissions and the BDG Biodegradable Glove 3.5g had 0.034073 emissions.
