Axiata appoints Amrit Kaur as director, audit chair


KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Group Bhd has appointed Amrit Kaur as its independent non-executive director from July 1, 2024.

In a statement, the telco group said Amrit will also be appointed as a member and chair of the Board Audit Committee.

Amrit, 63, has had over 30 years of experience in regulatory compliance, financial advisory, risk management and contributing to sustainable quality assurance practices.

She began her auditing career in Arthur Anderson in 1989. Amrit then joined PwC Malaysia, rising to helm various management and partnership positions including global leadership roles.

Over the course of her career, Amrit has led various engagements, advising some of Malaysia’s largest public listed institutions in various projects ranging from mergers and acquisitions, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to International Financial Reporting Standards implementations.

"Axiata, in our journey towards becoming the Next Generation Digital Champion, will continue to add diverse skillsets and knowledge to our Board.

"With our current experienced Board line-up, the Group will continue to strengthen our commitment to value creation and operational excellence," said Axiata chairman Tan Sri Shahril Ridza Ridzuan.

Group CEO and managing director Vivek Sood said Amrit’s appointment adds further strength to the board as it evolves to become an integral player in the region’s digital and technology ecosystem.
