FBM KLCI rises after weak start


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI bounced rallied over the morning session, extending gains made last Friday as investors picked up bargains following recent declines.

At 12.30pm, the key index was up 4.86 points to 1,594.95, underpinned by strong gains in certain blue chips.

YTL Corp rose 12 sen to RM3.57 and YTL Power gained six sen to RM4.88 while Tenaga Nasional added four sen to RM13.82.

Sunway climbed five sen to RM3.66 and PPB added 16 sen to RM14.16.

The broader market was positive with 483 gainers compared to 414 decliners and 463 counters unchanged.

The turnover in the early session was 1.94 billion shares valued at RM1.2bil.

Of the market sectors, utilities, energy and plantations were the most improved, while the day's three lagging sectors were telcos, consumer products and technology.

Of actives, Ingenieur rose 0.5 sen to 5.5 sen, Nova MSC gained one sen to 22.5 sen and EA Technique gained 1.5 sen to 35.5 sen.

In Asia, key markets shrugged off earlier weakness to move cautiously higher. Japan's Nikkei was up 0.1% to 39,615 while China's composite index gained 0.31% to 2,976.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was flat at 17,718 and Singapore's Straits Times index added 0.15% to 3,337.
