UUE soars on debut, FBM KLCI ends lower amid profit-taking


KUALA LUMPUR: Despite a slightly higher start at the opening bell, the FBM KLCI fell due to mild profit-taking, closing in the red on Tuesday.

The market bellwether closed down a negligible 0.24 of a point to 1,597.96 after moving between its intraday high of 1,602.52 and low of 1,595.62.

There were 715 gainers, 459 losers and 469 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. About 5.4 billion shares, valued at almost RM4bil, changed hands.

Stock market data showed that foreign investors and local institutions bought a net of RM1mil and RM74mil respectively on Monday. Retailers were net sellers, offloading RM75mil worth of equities.

Among the losers, Dutch Lady fell 54 sen to RM35.86, PPB Group slid 30 sen to RM14.12, SAM Engineering lost 17 sen to RM6.16 and PETRONAS Dagangan declined 16 sen to RM 17.26.

UUE, which made its debut on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia today, emerged as the top gainer. The counter closed up 45.5 sen, or 189.58% to 69.5 sen with 212,32 million shares traded.

IJM rose 26 sen to RM3.30, Keyfield added 17 sen to RM2.60, ViTrox gained 16 sen to RM4.25 and YTL Power climbed 15 sen to RM5.05.

Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent rose 56 cents each to US$83.94 and US$87.16 per barrel respectively.

Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 1.12%, South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.84%, China’s Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.07% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed up 0.3%.
