Eversendai in Abu Dhabi tie-up for Saudi project

PETALING JAYA: Eversendai Corp Bhd is partnering Emirates Steel, a unit of Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Steel Arkan Group, to construct the Neom Trojena Ski Village in Saudi Arabia.

Eversendai said in a statement that the ski village is poised to become a premier global destination, offering unparalleled recreational experiences in the region.

Its deputy group managing director Narishnath Nathan said the Neom Trojena Ski Village is a landmark project that will showcase both groups’ collective capabilities in delivering world-class steel construction solutions.

He added: “This partnership highlights our commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering and construction.”

Meanwhile, Emirates Steel, which will be supplying steel beams for the development of the ski village, said the project would be significant and promises to be a staple of the Neom region.

Its chief executive Saeed Alghafri said his company is committed to supplying benchmark sustainable steel solutions that meet the stringent demands of innovative construction projects.

“This collaboration with Eversendai exemplifies our dedication to driving sustainable growth across the Gulf Cooperation Council and delivering value to our partners and stakeholders,” he said.

The Neom is an urban area being built by Saudi Arabia in the area of Tabuk and officiated in 2017 by crown prince Mohammad Salman. The site is at the northern tip of the Red Sea, east of Egypt across the Gulf of Aqaba and south of Jordan, with a total planned area of 26,500 sq kms.

Multiple regions have been mapped out, including a floating industrial complex, global trade hub, tourist resorts and a linear city powered by renewable energy sources, with much of the city targeted to be completed by 2039, with costs estimated to be at US$1.5 trillion.

The name “Neom” itself is a portmanteau, with the first three letters being the ancient greek prefix neo meaning “new”, while the fourth letter, M, is the first letter of Mohammed Salman’s name, as well as the first letter of the Arabic word for future or mustaqbal.
