UEM Group appoints Hisham Hamdan as chairman, Amran Hafiz Affifudin as MD

KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Group Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, has appointed Datuk Hisham Hamdan as chairman and Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin as managing director, effective immediately.

In a statement, UEM Group said the change in leadership follows the departure of Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani who stepped down as managing director on July 31, 2024 after five years of service, since 2019

Hisham, who joined Khazanah in April 2011, is currently its chief investment officer and is responsible for managing and growing Khazanah’s multi-mandate and multi-asset portfolio.

Since 2018, he has served as head of public markets in Khazanah, which has a mandate to invest in more than 10 countries worldwide across developed markets and emerging markets underpinned by systematic and quantamental investment strategies.

With over 30 years of experience across a variety of corporate structures (portfolio, conglomerate, and business unit), Hisham also serves as the chairman of UEM Sunrise Bhd and the Board of Trustees of Khazanah Research Institute (KRI).

Hisham holds dual degrees in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Management from Purdue University, United States and has also completed the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.

Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin Datuk Amran Hafiz AffifudinMeanwhile, Amran’s career began in 1997 with PETRONAS in corporate finance and treasury functions. He then transitioned to the private equity industry before joining Khazanah in 2011.

He holds a B.Sc. in Commerce, majoring in Accounting & Finance from the Mclntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, USA.
