IRB slaps TNB with additional RM1.39bil tax bill

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has received notices of additional assessment from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) for the years of assessment 2020 and 2021, amounting to RM685.82mil and RM705.24mil, respectively.

The utility giant, in a filing with Bursa Malaysia, said the notices are similar to those received in previous years, which are currently pending in court. TNB has obtained an interim stay order against the payment of the disputed taxes.

“Based on the legal advice obtained from our tax solicitors, TNB is of the view that it has a good basis in law to contend that the assessments were erroneously raised by IRB.

“Accordingly and as before, TNB will be appealing against the said notice the soonest,” TNB said.
