SEPANG: Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350 will operate as usual despite Cathay Pacific grounding its entire fleet of 48 Airbus A350s.
It was reported that the Hong Kong airline had also cancelled 24 return flights after detecting engine problems.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the Malaysian national carrier will not follow the measures taken by Cathay Pacific.
"For the time being, no. I spoke to the Malaysia Aviation group chief executive officer this morning. The company is in touch with Airbus and it has checked (this out) with Airbus. The engine variant used here is different from the ones that are being used by Cathay Pacific’s A350s.
"If there is a need, further action can be taken. But as of now, it can operate as usual,” he told the media after launching the Capsule Transit MAX at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 here today.
According to reports, Cathay Pacific had, in a statement, said an engine component failure was detected involving flight CX383 from Hong Kong to Zurich on Monday (Sept 2). The aircraft returned to Hong Kong minutes after take-off.
"As a precautionary measure, we also proactively initiated a fleet-wide inspection of our 48 A350 aircraft,” Cathay Pacific director of engineering Keith Brown said in a statement on Monday.
"Each aircraft is undergoing a rigorous inspection. Upon completion, the aircraft cleared for operation will return to service, while those identified with technical issues will undergo further repair and maintenance work,” he said. - Bernama
