KUALA LUMPUR: Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Mohd Don, 77, passed away on Sept 17.
Ahmad had served as chairman of the Alliance Bank group since Feb 1, 2017, bringing with him extensive experience in banking, finance, and professional accounting.
In a statement, the bank said Ahmad was instrumental in Alliance Bank’s transformation journey, emphasising the importance of embedding the bank’s core values in all its operations.
He served as group managing director and chief executive officer of Malayan Banking Bhd from 1991 to 1994. Between May 1994 to August 1998, Ahmad was the governor of Bank Negara.
“We are greatly saddened by Ahmad’s passing on. He was a very well-known and well-respected figure in the community and the banking and finance industry. He was also a chairman of great wisdom and experience. He made a tremendous impact on the Bank, bringing about positive changes amidst challenges over the years to build a strong banking group in Malaysia.
“Our board members and management team were inspired by his leadership and Alliance Bank was privileged to have him at the helm as we embarked on a solid growth path,” group chief executive officer Kellee Kam said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Ahmad, who he said was his friend.
"I was deeply affected when I received the news that my close friend Tan Sri Ahmad Mohd Don had died late last night.
"I pray for strength for his family during this difficult time, and may his soul be forgiven by Allah and be granted the best place by Him," Anwar said in a Facebook post Tuesday (Sept 17).
