KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) organised a Workshop on the Implementation of the Industry Readiness Assessment Framework for 5G Services in Malaysia.
The workshop follows the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCMC and MIDA on July 4 to implement programmes and initiatives to leverage the 5G network for vertical sectors in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
In a statement, the MCMC said the one-day workshop was aimed at developing a framework for assessing the readiness of key sectors in the national economy, namely manufacturing, services, construction, and agriculture, to adopt 5G technology.
The parameters that will be used to assess key sectors' readiness include location, investment, skills/talent, digital infrastructure, and services.
Throughout the workshop, various feedback was gathered from the agencies involved, including the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), SIRIM Bhd, the SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp), Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), telecommunications companies, and relevant industry associations.
This feedback will subsequently be used to develop a comprehensive assessment framework for the adoption of 5G technology by various industries in Malaysia, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
MCMC said this workshop was a significant step towards ensuring industry readiness in adapting to 5G technology. This technology has the potential to boost productivity and efficiency in the manufacturing, services, construction, agriculture, and mining sector.
Meanwhile, MIDA also emphasised its commitment to creating a conducive environment for the use of this transformative technology.
“The adoption of 5G technology will not only enhance productivity in key industries but also position Malaysia as a leader in digital innovation in the region. This will, in turn, drive economic growth and increase the nation’s competitiveness on a global scale,” it said.
