Trading ideas: MyEG, Lay Hong, Maybank, Harrisons, Atlan, Velesto Energy

KUALA LUMPUR: Stocks to watch on Friday include MyEG Services Bhd, Lay Hong Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), Harrisons Holdings (M) Bhd, Atlan Holdings Bhd and Velesto Energy Bhd.

MyEG blockchain developer, Zetrix, has come out with a digital identification (ID) verification service for Chinese nationals on the ZCert service.

Lay Hong announced that Japan’s said NH Foods ceased to be a substantial shareholder after the later disposed of 62.32 million shares through off-market.

Maybank has signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Bank of Hangzhou to work together on enhancing cross-border business and advancing digital innovation.

Harrisons has proposed to split each of its shares into five shares in a move to improve the trading liquidity of the shares.

Atlan indirectly owned units, Cergasjaya Sdn Bhd and Cergasjaya Properties Sdn Bhd have received notices for the compulsory acquisition of their lands in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, for a road construction project.

Velesto Energy has completed its mandatory five yearly special periodical survey for its Naga 6 back-up rig on schedule.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.44% to 42,011.59, the S&P 500 lost 0.17% to 5,699.96 and the Nasdaq Composite eased 0.04% to 17,918.48.

Apex Research expects the local stock market will remain in a sideways trend following the release of slightly increased jobless claims.

Investors are awaiting tonight’s US unemployment data, which will offer additional insights into the economic outlook for the US.

“Likewise, the lower liners may follow a similar pattern in tandem with the tepid sentiment from the major index. Meanwhile, lingering negative outlook from Middle East tensions continues to pose downside risks to the market.

“Sector-wise, we anticipate the energy sector to outperform others as funds continue rotating into this sector, supported by rising oil prices amid supply concerns driven by the Middle East conflict,” Apex said.
