StanChart names Harmander Mahal head of wealth and retail banking for Malaysia, Indonesia

PETALING JAYA: Standard Chartered has appointed Harmander Mahal as head of wealth and retail banking (WRB) for Malaysia and Indonesia with effect from Oct 14, 2024.

In his new role based in Malaysia, Standard Chartered said Harmander is responsible for driving the WRB strategy in both markets.

“He will be reporting to Andrew Chia, head of WRB, Singapore, Asean and South Asia and Mak Joon Nien, chief executive officer of Malaysia.

“Harmander joins Standard Chartered Malaysia and Indonesia from WRB in Vietnam, where his last role was Head of WRB for Vietnam and Asia cluster, in which he was instrumental in growing the Vietnam franchise in the past seven years.”

Standard Chartered said Harmander has been with the bank since 2015, where he joined as regional head of retail banking segments and analytics in Singapore.

Subsequently in 2017, he took on the role of head of retail banking in Vietnam.

“Harmander succeeds Sammeer, who will be pursuing other opportunities after a career spanning 22 years with the bank.

“Sammeer has served as head of WRB Malaysia since 2021 and was instrumental in transforming WRB into profitable growth.”
