September vehicle sales drop to 58,032 units, says MAA

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s new vehicle sales slid 20% to 58,032 units in September 2024 from 72,367 units in August, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

MAA said in September 2024, 52,922 unit passenger vehicles were sold, down 14% from the 61,548 units sold in September 2023, while sales of commercial vehicles declined 23% to 5,110 units from 6,626 units.

Year-to-date, sales rose 4% to 594,037 units, up from 571,957 units in the same January to September 2023 period.

In terms of production, MAA said 55,383 units of vehicles were produced in September 2024, down 20% from 69,133 units in September 2023.

Of that amount, 51,730 units were passenger vehicles, while the remaining 3,653 units were commercial vehicles.

On outlook, MAA expects October 2024 sales to be higher than September 2024 level.
