Mastering environmental, social and governance integration

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group (SMG) is launching its inaugural environmental, social, and governance (ESG) summit to explore the critical significance of fostering positive change for a sustainable future.

Dedicated to promoting sustainable development and fostering ESG integration across sectors, this ESG summit will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Nov 6 to 7.

The two-day conference is set to be a landmark event, bringing together industry professionals, investors, and experts focused on the integration of ESG principles into business practices.

In an era where sustainability is not merely an option but a necessity, this summit emphasises the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, presenting a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the latest advances and cutting-edge technologies in sustainable business practices.

One of the central themes is compelling financial incentives behind adopting ESG strategies.

Participants will gain insights on how implementing these principles can lead to significant cost savings and heightened investor interest.

The summit will highlight how businesses prioritising sustainability are not only contributing to a better world but are also positioning themselves for financial success in a rapidly evolving market.

The agenda features a range of enlightening discussions and informative sessions that will delve into pivotal topics such as carbon emissions reduction, the transition to renewable energy sources, and the implementation of eco-friendly operational methods.

By addressing these critical areas, the summit aims to facilitate collaborations among diverse stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of ESG principles essential for tackling interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges.

In addition to focusing on best practices, the Star ESG summit will provide a platform for ESG experts to share their knowledge, insights, and the latest research findings on issues such as climate change and sustainable development.

Plenary sessions throughout the event will offer practical guidance on navigating various business, regulatory, and trade developments including carbon border adjustments and sustainable supply chains.

Participants will have the opportunity to curate their own schedules with a choice of three streams over the event:

Stream 1 will focus on governance and sustainable reporting, discussing how leadership in a company’s board and top management can mitigate reputational, financial, and cybersecurity risks.

Stream 2 will touch on economic security and value chain decarbonisation, emphasising talent management and engagement to ensure low attrition rates and the development of skills within the organisation.

Stream 3 will cater to those interested in digital transformation, highlighting climate and sustainable innovation.

The summit will feature a keynote address titled “From Vision to Action: Regional Implementation of NIMP 2030” by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad along with a host of speakers from around the globe.

They include: PwC Malaysia social impact, sustainability and climate change director Malar Odayappan who will speak about “Engaging next generation workforce for ESG roles: Getting everyone on board with your sustainability roadmap”.

Boston Consulting Group managing director and partner Dave Sivaprasad, who is leading the sustainability and climate change practice in South-East Asia, will share about “Carbon pricing and financing in sustainable business transformation”.

Pos Malaysia group chief executive officer Charles Brewer will speak on “Leadership and management strategies for ESG success”.

Prof Michael Frese from the Asia School of Business and Germany’s Leuphana University of Lueneburg will shed light on “Openness to new technology and eudaemonic well being, personal initiative, fun and passion”.

This exchange of ideas will help businesses identify and explore emerging trends and challenges in the ESG landscape, including the role of technology and the evolving regulatory environment surrounding ESG issues.

Moreover, the summit will highlight the importance of nurturing responsible and sustainable investing practices.

The Star ESG summit 2024 is an essential gathering for those committed to driving positive change through the integration of ESG principles in business practices.

By fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and highlighting the financial benefits of sustainability, the summit aims to inspire a collective movement toward a more sustainable future, ultimately benefiting businesses, investors, and the planet as a whole.
