FBM KLCI falls for sixth consecutive session; ACE Market debutant Sorento closes higher


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI began the trading day on a positive note but finished lower for the sixth consecutive session, bucking the regional uptrend.

The 30-stock index closed down 7.83 points, or 0.48%, at 1,610.47, after moving between an intraday high of 1,630.39 and a low of 1,609.87.

All indices on Bursa Malaysia ended lower, except for the Bursa Malaysia Consumer Products & Services Index and the Plantation Index.

There were significantly more decliners in the market than gainers, with 782 compared to 294, and another 484 counters remaining unchanged. A total of 2.45 billion shares changed hands, worth RM2.21bil in all.

BLD Plantation, the top loser on Bursa Malaysia, slid 76 sen to RM10.72. Tenaga Nasional fell 38 sen to RM14, Hong Leong Bank lost 36 sen to RM20.86 and Ajinomoto gave up 32 sen to RM14.56.

Among the gainers, Nestle surged RM2.80 to RM103, United Plantations added 50 sen to RM27, Kuala Lumpur Kepong rose 44 sen to RM21.54 and HeiTech Padu gained 28 sen to RM3.57.

ACE-Market debutant, Sorento closed up 0.5 sen, or 1.35% to 37.5 sen with 141.91 million shares traded.

On the forex market, the ringgit was down 0.44% against the greenback to 4.3620 and down 0.3% against the Singapore dollar at 3.2982.

Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.82% to 38,605.53 while South Korea’s Kospi added 1.13% to 2,612.43.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed up 0.04% at 20,599.36. China’s CSI300 Index gained 0.2% to 3,964.16 and Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.7% to 3,322.20.
