To ease this process, Star Media Group (SMG) is hosting its inaugural ESG Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Nov 6 to 7.
Centred around the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the summit provides a valuable chance for attendees to learn about the latest advancements and innovative technologies in sustainable business practices.The event will highlight the significant financial benefits of adopting ESG principles, such as cost savings and increased investor interest.
Additionally, it will host engaging discussions and informative sessions on crucial topics like reducing carbon emissions, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and adopting eco-friendly operational practices.
Plenary sessions throughout the event will offer practical guidance on navigating various business, regulatory, and trade developments, including carbon border adjustments and sustainable supply chains.
Participants will have the opportunity to curate their own schedules with a choice of three streams: Stream 1 focuses on governance and sustainable reporting; Stream 2 addresses economic security and value chain decarbonisation; and Stream 3 caters to those interested in digital transformation.
International ThinkTank the Global CCS Institute’s senior storage lead Siti Aishah Mohd Hatta will touch on the “Opportunities and challenges in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS)”
Siti Aishah’s talk will cover recent global advancements across the Americas, Europe, Asia and MENA regions, highlighting the pivotal policies driving large-scale projects and investments. She’ll explore how the Americas and Europe are leading in implementation, with significant storage capacities established.
PwC Malaysia social impact, sustainability and climate change director Malar Odayappan will speak about “Engaging next gen workforce for ESG roles: getting everyone on board with your sustainability roadmap”.
Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM) chief executive officer Dr Nurul Muiz Murad will share about “Community Programme Blueprint: opportunity for ESG and Scope 3 offset disclosure and reporting”.
His presentation will focus on the YHM Community Programme Blueprint, which aims to evaluate and measure the impact of community-based initiatives.
This approach seeks to quantify community carbon value, providing companies with valuable data for ESG disclosures, reporting and Scope 3 carbon offsets.
Thought in Gear chief executive officer Margie Ong will share insights on “Building resilient supply chains: ESG driven sustainable pathways”, while IBM Asia Pacific Envizi environmental leader Sachin Gupta and Fuller Impact Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Wan Imran Wan Abdul Rahaman will have a discussion on “The transformative powers of AI for economic and green energy growth”.
There will also be panel sessions throughout the two days, one of which will touch on “Protecting water resources for business continuity: the why and how”.
It will be conducted by Heineken Malaysia supply chain director Niko Van Cauwenberge and corporate affairs and legal director Renuka Indrarajah together with Global Environment Centre River Care Programme manager Dr Kalithasan Kailasam.
Besides the multitude of talks, the ESG Summit will feature an innovative showcase by exhibitors such as the Malaysia Forest Fund, Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM), Climate Fresk Malaysia, Carbon Offset Zone, and more.
