5G saga transmits mixed signals


The multi-billion-ringgit telecommunications industry is in a state of frenzy.

Late last Friday, the sector regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), said it had picked U Mobile Sdn Bhd to implement Malaysia’s second 5G network. That led to an outpouring of dissatisfaction by other telecommunications companies (telcos), industry observers and commentators.
