Chinese enterprises lead in Laos investments

VIENTIANE: Enterprises and investors from China have invested more than US$15bil in more than 900 projects in all sectors of Laos, especially energy, mining, infrastructure, services and agriculture.

This updated figure was reported at a Lao-Chinese business meeting held at Hangzhou in Zhejiang province of China on Nov 9. More than 100 participants from the public and business sectors of Laos and China were part of the gathering.

Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was among the guests at the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.

The business meeting was jointly organised by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, with the coordination of the Planning and Investment, Industry and Commerce Ministries and Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR.

The Laos-China business meeting was an important platform to supplement and expand the cooperative relationship between the socio-economic sectors of the two countries. — Vientiane Times
