KUALA LUMPUR: Vietnam’s largest private carrier, Vietjet, has announced a new direct service connecting Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur, which is expected to foster economic, cultural and tourism ties between Vietnam and Malaysia as well as across South-East Asia.

The Hanoi-Kuala Lumpur route, to start on Nov 28, 2024, will operate seven round trips weekly.

“The launch of this new route comes as Vietnam and Malaysia elevate their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, creating new opportunities for collaboration and development.

“Connecting the two capitals, the route will enhance regional aviation connectivity and add further value to economic and cultural cooperation,” it said in a statement issued to Bernama.

This is the airline’s second service linking Vietnam and Malaysia, following the Ho Chi Minh City-Kuala Lumpur route introduced in 2016.

Vietjet said the new addition will double its flight offerings between Vietnam and Malaysia to 14 round trips per week.

This will be to cater to the growing travel demand between the two countries.

According to the carrier, leaders from both nations praised the significance of the new route, expressing confidence that the Hanoi-Kuala Lumpur connection will contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

“The new route will also deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia, and promote the shared development of Asean,” it added.

The launch of the new route was witnessed by the Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam during his official three-day visit to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Datuk Tan Yang Thai lauded Vietjet for expanding its international flight networks and commitment to improving service quality, ensuring safety and enhancing passenger satisfaction.

“The new route holds a significant importance for the aviation sector of our two countries.

“The comprehensive strategic partnership between both nations that we just announced during Lam’s visit two days ago has a great start with the announcement of this inauguration flight,” he said.
