KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI pared some gains but remained above the 1,600-point psychological level as index-linked stocks held firm.
At 5 pm, the 30-stock index gained 5.70 points or 0.36% to finish at 1,603.15. It had earlier risen to a high of 1,607.76.
On Bursa Malaysia, losers outnumbered gainers by 584 to 412, with 2.54 billion shares valued at RM2.4bil changing hands.
Among the gainers, PETRONAS Dagangan surged RM1.68 to RM19.10, Hong Leong Industries jumped 56 sen to RM14.44, PPB Group rose 34 sen to RM13.34 and United Plantations added 26 sen to RM30.50.
Nestle slid 90 sen to RM94.10, IOI Properties fell 21 sen to RM2, ViTrox lost 19 sen to RM3.39 and Vstecs declined 16 sen to RM3.70.
Maybank fell eight sen to RM10.22. The bank recorded a net profit of RM2.54bil in the third quarter ended Sept 30, up from RM2.36bil in the year-ago quarter.
It reported revenue of RM16.69bil, against RM16.02bil in the comparative quarter.
Over the nine months period, Maybank said net profit was RM7.56bil on revenue of RM52.21bil, against RM6.96bil on revenue of RM47.34bil in the same period in 2023.
According to data from Bursa Malaysia, foreign investors and retailers were net sellers on Monday. Their outflows amounted to RM213mil and RM64mil, respectively. Local institutions emerged as net buyers recording inflows of RM277mil.
Around the region, MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index was weaker by 0.63%.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended up 0.87% at 38,442.0, while South Korea’s Kospi finished 0.55% lower at 2,520.36.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed up 0.04% at 19,159.20. China’s blue-chip CSI300 index fell 0.21% at 3,840.18, while the Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.12% to 3,259.76.
