Bank Negara reappoints three members to Shariah Advisory Council


KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara has reappointed Sahibus Samahah Datuk Setia Prof. Madya Dr. Anhar Opir, Dr. Marjan Muhammad and Dr. Ahmad Basri Ibrahim as members of the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) members.

These appointments are in accordance with section 53(1) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009, Bank Negara said in a statement.

With the reappointments, the SAC will comprise seven members with expertise and experience in Shariah, Islamic finance and law.

The SAC members are:

  • Prof. Dr. Ashraf Md Hashim (Chairman)
    • Professor, INCEIF University
  • Prof. Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali (Deputy Chair)
    • Honorary Professor, Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia
  • Datuk Prof. Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin (Member)
    • Professor, INCEIF University
  • Burhanuddin Lukman (Member)
    • Member of Hajj Advisory Committee, Lembaga Tabung Haji
  • Sahibus Samahah Datuk Setia Prof. Madya Dr. Anhar Opir (Member)
    • Mufti of Selangor
    • Reappointed from Nov 1, 2024 until Oct 31, 2026
  • Dr. Marjan Muhammad (Member)
    • Deputy President Research, INCEIF University
    • Reappointed from Nov 1, 2024 until Oct 31, 2027
  • Dr. Ahmad Basri Ibrahim (Member)
    • Head, Shariah Management, Permodalan Nasional Bhd
    • Reappointed from Jan 1, 2025 until Dec 31, 2027

“Bank Negara also wishes to express its appreciation to Tan Sri Mohd Zawawi Salleh and Zainal Abidin Jamal for their invaluable contributions throughout their tenure,” it said.

Mohd Zawawi will complete his term of service on the SAC on Dec 31, 2024 while Zainal has completed his term of service on Oct 31, 2024.
