KUALA LUMPUR: Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB), a wholly owned company by the Minister of Finance Inc, is investing nearly RM1bil to fund the construction of two water treatment plants in Seberang Perai, Penang, starting in 2025.

PAAB said the project involves the construction of Sungai Perai plant in Seberang Perai Tengah district with a capacity of 136 million litres of water per day (MLD).

Another project involves the construction of Sungai Muda plant in the Seberang Perai Utara district with a capacity of 114 million litres per day.

“Once completed, a 15% reserve supply margin can be maintained in the state of Penang and hence, will be able to cope with high demand in both Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Utara areas to support future development needs,” PAAB said.

PAAB earlier paid a courtesy call to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Komtar Complex to explain its role in managing facilitation funds for water infrastructure projects, both in Penang and other states involved in the National Water Services Industry Restructuring Plan.
