KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd recorded a total of 55 initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2024, marking a 72% increase from the 32 IPOs listed in 2023.
The 55 IPOs also mark the highest number of listings on the Exchange in the past 19 years, underscoring Bursa Malaysia’s growing appeal as a strategic partner for companies seeking to raise their profile and seek capital for growth and expansion.
“This year’s high number of IPOs reflects the continuous efforts by capital market regulators to provide facilitative regulatory frameworks that enhance market competitiveness and relevance. Interest from investors in the IPOs, generally good oversubscription rates and share price appreciation demonstrate confidence in the companies’ growth prospects.
“Bursa Malaysia is proud to rank first among Asean exchanges year to date, in terms of the number of IPOs recorded and total IPO funds raised,” chief executive officer Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said in a statement.
Separately, chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said that achieving 55 IPOs is a testament to Bursa Malaysia's commitment to fulfilling its role as a key national growth enabler, facilitating capital fundraising for home-grown companies across its Main Market, ACE Market and Leap Market.
“The IPO proceeds enable companies to expand their businesses, grow the economy, generate higher profits, pay dividends to shareholders, contribute tax revenue to the government, and create employment opportunities for Malaysians.
“Looking ahead, we are committed to sustain the strong IPO momentum as we move into 2025,” Wahid said.
During the year, the Main Market recorded 11 listings, representing a 57% increase from the seven listings in 2023.
The ACE Market achieved 40 listings, marking a 67% rise compared to the 24 listings in 2023.
Additionally, the Leap Market saw 4 listings, a significant 300% increase from the single listing in 2023.
The 55 IPOs in 2024 raised a total of RM7.42bil in proceeds, representing a 107% increase from the previous year.
These IPOs also contributed RM31.37bil in market capitalisation to Bursa Malaysia based on their IPO prices, reflecting a 130% rise compared to 2023.
Based on their IPO prices, the five largest IPOs on Bursa Malaysia collectively contributed RM20.32bil in market capitalisation to the exchange.
