PETALING JAYA: As the global marketplace becomes increasingly interconnected, Malaysian companies have unparalleled opportunities to expand their presence beyond borders.
However, navigating international trade requires more than just ambition – it demands the right strategies, support and tools.
Addressing these challenges, Nurdiana Abdullah, deputy director of the market development unit at Malaysia External Trade Development Corp’s (Matrade) transformation and digital trade division, will speak at the Global Navigator Series (GNS) in Penang on Jan 7, 2025.
In her presentation, titled “A Promising Partnership: What’s Next?” Nurdiana will highlight Matrade’s role in helping Malaysian companies access and expand global export markets through its network of 49 international offices.
Currently overseeing the Market Development Grant (MDG) and Services Export Fund (SEF), Nurdiana excels in promoting international trade, developing market access strategies, and fostering bilateral trade relations.
With 19 years of experience, including postings as a trade commissioner in Paris, New York and London, she is well-versed in creating opportunities for Malaysian exporters.
During her session, Nurdiana will outline Matrade’s 2025 trade promotion programmes, exporters’ development initiatives, grants and training designed to support local exporters in succeeding globally.
She will also delve into the eTrade and eBizlink programmes, which enable businesses to list and promote their products on eCommerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay or others of their choice, supported by grants for online marketing.
The GNS, scheduled for Jan 7, 2025 at St Giles Wembley, Penang, will also host a fireside chat with Standard Chartered Malaysia chief executive officer Mak Joon Nien and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, both of whom will explore Penang’s unique advantages for exporters.
Following this, Jonathan Koh, economist and foreign exchange analyst in Asia for Standard Chartered Singapore, will provide insights on the “US & Malaysia’s Macroeconomic Outlook 2025” and its implications for trade, investments and foreign exchange.
A panel discussion titled “Sustaining Success: Evolving Strategies for Long-Term US Market Growth” will be held.
The session will feature industry leaders who will provide attendees with a comprehensive perspective on thriving in the competitive US market.
Moderating the discussion will be Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association director Andrew Chan.
He will be joined by panelist Siti Azlina, Matrade’s deputy director for electrical and electronics, information and communications technology, machinery and equipment section, who has over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, export promotion, and international collaborations.
Other panellists include Standard Chartered Malaysia’s regional head for SME Banking in North and East Malaysia Tan Wan Yean, who plays a crucial role in equipping SMEs with financial tools to succeed in international markets; Transcargo Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd director Ong Chin Keong, who has over two decades of expertise in logistics and global supply chain management; and chief representative for Malaysia at the US-Asean Business Council, Inc, Tina Jamaluddin, who acts as a key liaison between the council, the Malaysian government, the private sector and the US diplomatic mission.
