KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has identified 33 indicators with 32 actions to be implemented in the short and medium term through the first meeting of the National Competitiveness Committee (JKDSN).
According to MITI, the actions will directly contribute to the measurement of indicators that will subsequently enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness and productivity.
"In line with the whole-of-government approach, MITI is committed to collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies to advance the national competitiveness agenda, aiming to position Malaysia among the 12 most competitive economies by 2033 under the MADANI Economy Framework," MITI said in a statement today.
Its Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, emphasised that the committee underscores the government's seriousness in improving the efficiency of public service delivery, which will, in turn, enhance national competitiveness.
"From the perspective of investment and trade, robust productivity and competitiveness will attract more high-impact investors and trade partners when Malaysia demonstrates its capability to maintain economic stability, infrastructure efficiency, and excellent governance as well as corporate governance," he said.
"MITI is confident that through the JKDSN platform, which spans across ministries, more integrated, holistic, and effective strategies can be formulated," he added.
Tengku Zafrul further said that JKDSN’s goal goes beyond improving Malaysia’s rankings in reports or indices, and more importantly, to ensure positive impacts on the people and businesses.
MITI co-chaired the first JKDSN meeting, which aims to drive improvements in national competitiveness, with the session jointly chaired by Tengku Zafrul and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The establishment of JKDSN is an effort to mobilise the cooperation of the entire government to enhance public service delivery efficiency, which will subsequently boost national competitiveness.
The focus includes strengthening the foundation of competitiveness, that is, to enhance productivity and efficiency in government services, particularly for the business, export, and industrial/investment sectors.
Besides MITI and the Ministry of Finance, the meeting was attended by Secretaries-General and representatives from ministries and agencies leading the efforts to enhance national competitiveness, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Human Resources, and Ministry of Economy. - Bernama
