Tenaga Nasional challenges RM291.55mil tax assessment

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd's (TNB) indirect subsidiary, TNB Western Energy Bhd (TNB WE), through TNB Manjung Five Sdn Bhd, has received a RM291.55mil tax assessment for the year of assessment 2018.

The notice was issued by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) on Dec 10, 2024.

“On Dec 31, 2024, TNB WE filed for a judicial review at the High Court of Malaya to challenge certain aspects of the notice,” TNB said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

TNB said that on Jan 9, 2025, the High Court granted an interim stay on all further proceedings, including the enforcement of the tax assessment notice, pending the outcome of the judicial review application.

The leave hearing for the judicial review is scheduled for April 14, 2025.
