Lim family, EPF said to near US$1.7bil Yinson bid

KUALA LUMPUR: Yinson Holdings Bhd.’s founding Lim family, Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund and MISC Bhd. are teaming up for a potential US$1.7bil buyout of the company, according to people familiar with the matter.

The group is preparing to submit an indicative offer of around RM2.35 per share for Yinson, which could come as soon as this week, the people said, asking to not be identified because the information is private.

Yinson’s shares have climbed almost 12% in Kuala Lumpur this week, reaching a four-month high of RM2.22. That’s given the energy infrastructure company a market value of RM6.5bil.

Representatives for the Lim family and Yinson declined to comment. EPF and MISC didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Lim family owns about 27.7% of Yinson, while EPF holds 17.1%. MISC is an international maritime company and part of the PETRONAS group. The Edge reported earlier Thursday that PETRONAS, EPF and the Lims were in talks to take Yinson private.

The Lims and Stonepeak Partners had earlier been looking to take Yinson private and were building toward a US$2bil offer before that plan wavered, Bloomberg News reported previously. - Bloomberg
