THE Sepang International Circuit (SIC) was built to promote Malaysia globally through motorsports and it has done so successfully.

Inaugurated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on March 7, 1999, SIC held its first Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix in October that year. Before that, it hosted the first MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix in April.
