THE sign of the rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity.
Adopting that concept for Chinese New Year, Wan Chun Ting Chinese restaurant in Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara has prepared a variety of worthy new year dining offers until Feb 5.
The feast of Cantonese delicacies did not disappoint as we had the privilege of reviewing the festive season’s Fortune Set menu curated by executive Chinese chef Leong Weng Heng who comes with 32 years of experience specialising in Cantonese cuisine.
His craft and expertise is showcased in the delicate craftsmanship in every festive dish.
The Fortune set menu (RM288+ per person) had yee sang with crispy white bait fish, Norwegian salmon and cherry tomatoes.
This was followed by the double boiled chicken soup with mini abalone, dried scallop, dried sliced sea whelk cordyceps flower; deep-fried soon hock fish sliced with homemade asam sauce; steamed village chicken served with homemade spicy sauce; wok-fried spicy Hokkaido scallops served on rice crackers; braised sun-dried oyster, black mushroom with bean puff and garden greens; fragrant fried rice and glutinous rice with waxed meat.
Dessert was steamed Chinese New Year cake (nian gao) coated with shredded coconut; chilled mango puree served with pomelo, and premium Chinese tea.
On a rainy day, the clear, warm chicken soup with dried scallops that bursts with flavour provides a soothing comfort.
The tangy fish and chicken were filling although we still had lots more to enjoy.
The Hokkaido scallops were interesting as it was served on crackers providing the dish with a crunchy texture.
The fried oysters and black mushrooms go well with the fried rice, while the mango puree was a pleasant end to the hearty meal with the cooling feeling of the pomelo.
There is also the Prosperity set menu (RM258+ per person) comprising yee sang with crispy fish skin and soft shell crab, and dishes such as braised dried scallop soup with sea treasure and crab meat; and giant grouper stewed with yam and black mushrooms, to name a few.
