WEEKENDS are a time for people to rejuvenate by taking time off for leisurely activities or spending time with loved ones.

For those up for a splashing good time with fun by the pool and some good grub, then a buffet promotion catering to families might be up your alley.

The “Splash and Brunch” promotion at Sunset Terrace in Sunway Resort Hotel in Bandar Sunway is an ideal place to enjoy a buffet meal and a range of facilities over the weekend.

For fresh seafood options, there are oysters, prawns, mussels and scallops among the starters while the sushi counter is a pretty sight with servings of assorted nigiri sushi, makimono, sashimi, pickles and wasabi.

The buffet, which features dishes from various countries, has Middle Eastern Roast Lamb with Rice, also known as Lamb Ouzi as the highlight.

The lamb is so soft and tender that it has the melt-in-the-mouth effect.

The flavoursome rice, on the other hand, is lovely when paired with spicy, sour green chilli sauce served alongside.

Other dishes to go with the Lamb Ouzi are Fattoush Salad, Pumpkin Salad with Quinoa, Poached Asparagus Salad with Wild Mushroom and Shallot Dressing, Kale Hummus with Arabic bread, and babaganoush.

Churrasco is a South American-style of grilling meat over charcoal fire and the resultant taste comes from the smoky aroma in the cubed pieces.

Cooking this way also helps caramelise the meat while leaving it juicy and tender.

A variety of sauces such as the HP sauce, mustard and horseradish are available as dipping sauces to go with the meat.

There’s good news for those who like barbecued steak and sausages as these are part of the line-up too.

A touch of Mexican flavours in the form of Salmon and Egg Quesadilla and Chicken and Egg Tacos add more variety.

The quesadilla presents varied textures with red and yellow capsicums, fluffy scrambled eggs and crunchy onions.

Salmon slices lavish taste buds with buttery richness in this traditional Mexican favourite.

For something a little crispier, there are tacos.

Here, chicken slices tango alongside aromatic flavours of coriander and onions, which is balanced out by sour cream.

Italian food lovers can delight in Gnocchi alla Sorrentina, Mushroom and Garlic Chicken Spaghetti, Fettucine Carbonara and Penne Arrabiata as well as pizzas such as Margherita and Tropical Hawaiian.

Representing Spain is paella with a loadful of fresh seafood giving abundant flavour to the rice.

The local favourite of Nasi Lemak Pandan comes with the usual accompaniments of sambal bawang, sambal ikan bilis, Ayam Goreng Berempah as well as ikan bilis, peanut, boiled eggs and sliced cucumber.

Let’s not forget savoury and sweet flavours of chicken and beef satay with peanut sauce for those who cannot get enough of meat on skewers.

For Indian food, go in search of rava thosai, naan, egg bhurji, briyani, malai kofta and chicken tikka.

There is also a dedicated area for children to satisfy their cravings over servings of nuggets, sausages and doughnuts.

The colourful kids area has lower tables and chairs to make the young ones feel right at home.

Sunset Terrace chef de cuisine Afiq Matkhir said the concept of the buffet was to present myriad flavours from all around the world in one place.

“The dishes are grouped in different zones according to their countries of origin.

“The Indian food corner is prepared by an Indian chef who specialises in northern Indian cooking,” he added.

Besides the buffet, families can also enjoy their afternoon by exploring the various facilities available, including a swimming pool and the Wonderland Explorers Kids’ Club.

Sunway Resort Hotel management associate Wong Yun Yi said the facilities aimed to give families a space to hang out and have fun.

“In the Wonderland Explorers Kids’ Club, parents can spend some quality time with their children in various activities such as colouring, soap making, and cooking.

“Besides the daily activities which run on a rotational basis, we also hold seasonal activities for different occasions.

“For example, we have a gingerbread-making event during Christmas.

“Prices will vary depending on the nature of the activities,” said Wong.

There are also dedicated areas for parents to relax as their children are cared for by staff members, she added.

The buffet, priced at RM208 for adults and RM104 for children aged six to 12 years old and senior citizens, is available every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm.

Children below the age of six dine for free.
