Goodness in every cup of Milo

Fuel your mornings with a cup of Milo.

WHEN you ask a Malaysian what they usually have for breakfast, chances are they would reply: “A cup of Milo with nasi lemak.”

Milo is a Malaysian must-have breakfast drink. Ever since the choco-malt drink was introduced in Malaysia in the 1950s, it has won the hearts of Malaysians across all generations. Milo has since become a well-loved household brand and a quintessential part of Malaysian breakfast.

As many have referred to breakfast as the most important meal of the day, it doesn’t mean you need to have a big meal. Which is why a cup of Milo paired with a balanced breakfast is sufficient to give you the energy to kickstart your busy mornings.

Made from malt barley, milk and cocoa, Milo is packed with the goodness of each ingredient which has its specific and important benefit. Malt barley gives you energy, while milk is a source of protein and calcium. Cocoa gives Milo the unmistakably distinctive aroma and delicious chocolatey taste you love.

Milo is a nutritious beverage to fuel your mornings. It contains macronutrients such as carbohydrates, protein and fat that provide the energy, as well as micronutrients which are a unique combination of six vitamins and three minerals that help to release energy from the food you eat. There is only around one teaspoon of added sugar (sucrose) in a serving (30g) of Milo.

When it comes to mixing your Milo, Malaysians will argue that their version is better than the next person’s. Many prefer to add sugar and/or sweetened beverage creamer to their Milo, but what they do not realise is the perfect cup of Milo has been sitting right under their nose all along. Just add 200ml of water to five teaspoons (30g) of Milo powder to retain its nutrients and flavour.

Now that we have unlocked the ‘secret’ to making the perfect cup of Milo, pair it with a nutritious breakfast to further unlock the goodness within. Some breakfast pairings you can try with a cup of Milo include chicken porridge, putu mayam and tuna sandwich besides everyone’s favourite nasi lemak.

“Pairing your breakfast with Milo helps to contribute towards your daily energy or nutritional needs, ” said Nestlé (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd group corporate nutrition manager Wong Mei Ching.

“It also complements a balanced diet and active lifestyle because just one cup of Milo contains 124kcal – which is 6% of your daily energy needs (based on 2000kcal). This is Milo’s brand purpose to make Malaysians active and healthier with nutritious energy, ” she added.

Milo now comes in a variety of nutritious offerings for Malaysians to go further for any occasion in their day. Milo with Whole Grain Cereal is a high-fiber option for those who wish to keep their breakfast fix with Milo without feeling weighed down by a full breakfast, while Milo Less Sugar is your favourite Milo at 25% less sugar and a darker cocoa taste compared to your regular Milo.

In addition to providing nutritious energy, Milo has been a champion of active lifestyle and Malaysia’s grassroots sports for the past 70 years. Under Milo Aktif Negaraku, efforts such as Milo Hidup Bola, Milo Champions Clinic and Milo Activ Jam Senam Aerobik not only encourage Malaysians to keep active but have also become platforms to discover sporting talents from a young age.
