They used to say, don’t eat the egg yolks as they’re bad for cholesterol. Then they said, eat it all up as you needed both egg yolk and egg white to balance your diet.
The jury is still out on eggs, but the truth is, it’s one food that’s versatile, nutritious and the easiest to prepare.
When it comes to making egg sandwiches or egg and potato salad, the one main ingredient you will need is eggs. So what’s the quickest way to mash up a few eggs at a time? Here are six different ways some folks break it all up. — Compiled by PATSY KAM
1. Some people are better at cutting than others, so they prefer to chop up each hard-boiled egg with a knife into smaller pieces.
2. For some, it makes sense to use a fork and use a little strength to break up the boiled eggs into smaller bits in a bowl.
3. Your potato masher can be used for other things too ― mashing up eggs! It covers a wide base and you can finish the job in a matter of minutes even if you have a lot of eggs to mash. To ensure the egg doesn’t slip out from under the masher, keep the hard-boiled egg firmly in place and press down directly. The eggs also get broken up quite evenly, so you’ll get a nice spread in no time.
4. Mash your eggs with a baking rack. Takes a bit of practice but once you’ve gotten a handle on how it’s done, you can mash it all up like a boss, as you can do quite a number at a go.
5. Use a cup and squarely press down on the hard-boiled egg. It gets squished nicely, and it can be really satisfying, especially if you have some pent up angst to release!
6. You know those kitchen gadgets that are great for chopping up shallots, garlic and a host of other small ingredients? They work well on eggs too, except that you’ll want to ensure there’s no leftover smell from the last time you used it, lest your mashed eggs reek of garlic!
