AS A huge fan of Korean cuisine, what makes a standout Korean barbecue comes down to one thing and one thing only – the uncompromising quality of the meats.
At K-Town BBQ Grillhouse, founder Andy Goh said he was committed to using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients, including halal-certified meat and seafood.
“Our restaurant offers a wide selection of unlimited meat options so that you can enjoy your favourite Korean BBQ dishes,” he said.
I tried their all-you-can-eat buffet which offered over 50 choices on the menu at the restaurant’s Bukit Jelutong outlet in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Cooked the traditional way by grilling the meats over a charcoal fire, beef yakiniku kicked off the feast.
The yakiniku’s tender and succulent texture was achieved through grilling the thinly sliced beef to perfection.
The harmonious blend of savoury and smoky flavours was accompanied by a subtle touch of natural sweetness.
Grilled offerings included marinated lamb rack (yangeum yang gogi), marinated baby octopus (yangeum nakji) and my preferred choice, smoked duck (hoonje ori), particularly when enjoyed with their K-Town Spicy Sauce.
I explored the flavorful spicy soft tofu stew (sundubu jjigae), stir-fried glass noodles (japchae), seafood Korean pancake (haemuljeon), kimchi fried rice and Korean fried chicken, among others.
The stew, commonly known as sundubu jjigae, is a warm, comforting embrace for the taste buds.
A bubbling broth of rich and subtle spiciness is derived from the gochujang (Korean chilli paste), while the chunks of soft tofu add a creamy and silky texture to the stew.
The crowning dish of the day was the seafood Korean pancake – haemuljeon –undoubtedly one of the best I have ever eaten.
The mesmerising medley of seafood flavours infused into the crispy pancake, offered a savoury taste packed with a refreshing hint of the ocean that made it an unforgettable dish.
Eaten with a touch of soy sauce or purely on its own, this pancake is a sure crowd-pleaser.
A delightful ensemble of refillable Korean side dishes (banchan), including kimchi, Korean macaroni salad, seaweed, fried anchovies and plenty more, made for a satisfying after-meal cleansing of the palate.
Having explored many Korean restaurants, I found the food here truly exceptional, ranking among the best I have ever eaten.
