Alva KL, located at Ascott Star KLCC, is the latest rooftop dining spot in town and it features some of the best views of KLCC and the city skyline of Kuala Lumpur.
The restaurant is officially on floor number “99”, but in reality, it is actually a level above 56th floor, so nope, you don’t get to look down at the Petronas Twin Towers, but rather, you’ll be almost on an equal level.
Featuring a full bar, Alva KL offers a good selection of cocktails and mocktails for your pleasure (the former may even enhance the already spectacular view).
Having tasted four of these drinks, I can attest to the skills of the bartender!
Similarly, the menu we sampled did not disappoint. We started off with nachos and truffle chips; these were ready-to-party, dressed up versions of potato chips that went well with the cocktails.
Seafood was well represented in the menu; we tried the Atlantic Miso Cod that was served in lotus leaf with a bit of ikura on top, a marriage of East and West.
There were also perfectly seared scallops and expertly grilled Tiger prawns with Cajun butter that brought back memories of the Southern states in the United States.
From the farm, there was the Australian Short Ribs with ponzu and fried jalapeno, a recipe with Japanese and Cajun influences; and Chicken Croissant Burger with French butter and spiced chicken.
“Fusion” has perhaps garnered an unfair negative connotation over the years – the dishes here can be described as such, and in a good way as it was certainly done nicely, with much thought given to the pairing and resulting flavours.
For dessert lovers, the Starfruit Mille-feuille and Above the Cloud Tiramisu will definitely satisfy, but a word of caution, don’t take too long for photo-taking lest you end up with melted desserts!
