When it comes to William Shakespeare’s plays, much of the focus usually falls on the works themselves – they do, after all, continue to be exalted 400 years after they were written. Less often discussed, though, is the staging of the plays themselves and all the work that goes into making them happen.
When I first picked up Ystari Games’ Shakespeare, I was anticipating a board game structured around his plays and characters. It was bit of a let-down, then, to discover that the game had less to do with the Bard’s actual narratives and is more about the intricacies of staging a play in 16th-century London.
