Japanese anime star to light up this weekend's Comic Fiesta in KL

Suzuki's showcase will take place at 7pm at the Comic Fiesta 2022 main stage at KL Convention Centre on Dec 17.

Popular anime artiste Suzuki Konomi is one of the live performance highlights at the Comic Fiesta 2022 at the KL Convention Centre this weekend (Dec 17 and 18).

Suzuki's showcase will take place at 7pm at the Comic Fiesta main stage on Dec 17.

The Japan Foundation (JF) is co-presenting the concert, with support from Comic Fiesta and Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.

Comic Fiesta, one of South-East Asia’s largest animation, comic and game events, is back as an in-person event (ticketed) after a three-year pandemic hiatus.

As a grand restart, the Osaka-born Suzuki, 26, fits the festival bill as a headlining act. Her career includes winning the All-Japan Anime Song Grand Prix (in 2011), and she has spread the appeal of anime songs to the global masses.

"Suzuki Konomi, who debuted as a singer at the age of 15 in 2012, has wowed fans not only in Japan but all over the world with her compelling singing talent and beautiful voice, while collaborating with various anime works and releasing numerous anime songs.

"This year marks her 10th anniversary of her debut, and her performance in Kuala Lumpur will serve as a highlight of the 40th anniversary of Malaysia's Look East Policy (LEP)," read a concert statement from JF.

Suzuki's concert at Comic Fiesta is also scheduled to be streamed next year (date to be announced) via the "Stage Beyond Borders-Selection of Japanese Performances” platform, JF’s online streaming project for stage performances.

"We hope that the concert will help to further boost exchanges between Malaysia and Japan and contribute to stronger ties between the two countries," it added.

The concert this Saturday at the KL Convention Centre is free for Comic Fiesta 2022 attendees. An additional concert ticket is required to join the concert and can be collected at the event. The concert ticket is limited to one ticket per person (first come first serve basis) and subject to concert hall capacity limits.
