All anyone's known for certain was that in May 2017, Warner Bros. announced that Snyder was leaving the film due a family tragedy, and Joss Whedon – writer-director of Marvel Studios' beloved blockbuster The Avengers and less-beloved, less-blockbuster-y Avengers: Age Of Ultron – was taking over as screenwriter and director.
