Bowie Wu recently held his 90th birthday concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum where celebrities such as Nancy Sit, Michael Hui, Calvin Choi and Remus Choy from Grasshopper as well as Wu's godsons Jacky Cheung and Nick Cheung made appearances.

Another guest star on the show was legendary actress Law Lan, one of Wu's good friends. Rumours started circulating that Wu proposed to Law Lan, 88, backstage at the Coliseum.

The rumour was traced to a Facebook page which stated that both Wu and Law Lan became close after the actor's wife died in 2016. It also reported that Wu's children, who were also backstage, are supportive of his relationship with Law Lan, who has never been married.

Hong Kong media then reached out to Wu for comments. The actor rubbished the news, calling it "a beautiful rumour".

"Many people called and WhatsApped me to congratulate me. I can only say I’m dumbfounded," Wu told HK01.

Law Lan also told refuted the rumour when asked by Shin Min Daily News. “What do you think? Of course, it’s false!” she said.

“I was a guest at Bowie Wu's concert, but he never came backstage to propose to me. I don’t know where the rumours come from,” she said.

Wu also denied that the rumour was deliberately started to promote their upcoming TVB drama where they play residents in a nursing home who fall in love with each other.
