Actress Wong Yee Kam, 57, recently opened up about a traumatic event she experienced 30 years ago while shooting a drama.
Wong joined TVB in 1986 and worked on multiple series such as The Grand Canal, The Master Strategist and Bing Kuen.
However, she quit the Hong Kong broadcasting company four years later and moved to Malaysia where she developed a career for over 10 years.
In a talk show that aired on Dec 8, Wong confessed that she accidentally killed a crew member while filming for a TV series, Half Life, in Malaysia.
"I had to drive on a mountain, but I wasn't very confident because I just got my driver's license," she said.
Wong admitted that she begged the director to hire a stunt double, but he wasn't on board with the idea.
His decision resulted in a horrifying incident.
While shooting her scene, Wong was so absorbed in her role that she didn't realise the speed at which she was driving. She lost control of the car and hit a female crew member who later passed away from her injuries.
"After the accident, I kept shouting about how I didn't want to see or hear anything. I remember leaving the car and sitting by the roadside ... afraid to look at the car, afraid to listen to what people had to say," she explained.
Wong took a hiatus from filming after the incident. She didn't dare face her own family nor the family of the deceased.
Although she was forgiven by the other crew member's family, the actress decided to stop driving to "atone for her sins".
Wong returned to Hong Kong in 2003 and resumed her acting career in 2009 with ATV. She officially returned to TVB in 2015.
