Edison Chen recently became the topic of gossip after a netizen accused the Hong Kong actor of lashing out at him, China Times reported.

In a lengthy post on Chinese social networking site, Xiaohongshu, the alleged victim said the encounter happened at a shopping mall in Japan.

"My wife saw Edison shopping with his family and asked if I wanted to snap a photo. But I didn't want to disturb him (Chen)," the post read.

"I'm not familiar with stars but since he was a celebrity, I wanted to share the experience (through text) with my friends, but I never planned on taking a sneak shot nor a group photo with him."

China Press reported that the actor then approached the netizen asking: "What's my name?"

When the latter mistook him for Eason Chan – a popular Hong Kong singer – Chen allegedly lost his temper and scolded the netizen, calling him a "b****".

"He told me, 'My name is Edison Chen' and suddenly slapped me in the face," the post continued.

Even though the netizen's wife repeatedly apologised to Chen, hk01 reported that the 42-year-old refused to back down, even going as far as spitting on the victim's face.

In the end, police were called to break up the fight.

The post made waves in Hong Kong. A few people expressed shocked after learning about the story. However, many are skeptical about its validity, calling it "baseless" as the source never posted a photo or video proving it happened.

Chen, who has a daughter with supermodel wife Qin Shupei, has yet to respond to the accusations.
