Chef Wan shared the sad news that his beloved mother Noraini Abdullah, better known as Cik Ani, had passed away at 6.20am on Thursday (Jan 12).
She was 93 years old.
Chef Wan, whose real name is Datuk Redzuan Ismail, shared on Instagram: "With great sadness my dearest mom had passed away at 6.20am peacefully in her sleep at the Gleneagles Hospital this morning. May her soul rest in peace."
Cik Ani was warded almost two weeks ago at the Hospital Gleneagles, Ampang, Kuala Lumpur due to cancer and several other health complications.
Since the start of the new year, the celebrity chef had been updating about his mother's health status on his Instagram account ... sharing that it is hard to see his mother this way.
In one of those posts he wrote: "Waiting for your loved one's soul to slip away, it's the most painful feeling.
"As days go by, it's even more difficult seeing my mum becoming so frail until all that's left are skin and bones. I see this a lot in cancer patients towards the end."
On Jan 4, he shared that he has made the funeral arrangements after discussing it with his family and they decided Cyberjaya as her final resting place.
On Thursday, he stated that "her body will be prepared for burial at Masjid Putra Putrajaya" before laid to rest at Cyber 10 Muslim Cemetery.
In previous posts too, he had shared that he had come to terms that his mother would be leaving the earth soon, as "there's nothing more, I or the medical team could do to reverse all this".
Nonetheless, he said that he felt grateful to have had his mother in his life for so long and the chance "to take her all over the world and be under my care constantly".
He added: "We both just need to be grateful to Allah for his blessing that indeed we both have had our fabulous moments too. By not regretting anything in the past ... I do feel it's so much easier to come to terms about mum leaving all of us.
"At some point in our life we all must say farewell to one another anyway."
