There is no turning back for actress Puteri Sarah Liyana – she is dead set in ending her marriage with director-actor Syamsul Yusof.

As reported last week of her intent to file for divorce, the 37-year-old has done exactly that at the Federal Territories Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Jan 16).

According to a report by mStar – The Star's Malay language portal – the court has set the mention date for her divorce case to be on March 7.

When met at the court compound earlier today, she told mStar that the date is significant to her as it's very close to their wedding anniversary.

"I feel relieved (to have received this date). This year would've been our ninth year wedding anniversary. We got married on March 8, and since I got the mention date as March 7, I will take it as a sign that this is where our stories are supposed to end.

"It's enough that I was Mohd Syamsul's wife for nine years," she explained to mStar.

Puteri Sarah arrived at the court premise in Jalan Duta at around 10.30am, accompanied by her two younger siblings. She is represented by lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader.

Her filing for divorce comes 10 days after 38-year-old Syamsul announced on Instagram that he has taken a second wife, and she is actress Ira Kazar.

Syamsul had said in the video that he is still the legal husband of Puteri Sarah, with whom he shares two children, Syaikhul Islam, six, and Summayyah, four.

But according to Sarah, she is seeking the divorce from Syamsul not because she's against polygamy but because she is disappointed of being lied to by her husband.

She added that her efforts to better their relationship as husband and wife did not make a difference.

"Actually polygamy is something beautiful if the husband is just. But because I was lied to, and (he got married) without discussing it with me or even asking my permission, I think this is the best route to take hereon.

"What can I say, other than that, Alhamdulillah, I have fulfilled my duty as a wife. I did my best, I talked with my family, I held on, I met with religious teachers, and yet nothing changed."

The Andai Itu Takdirnya actress also shared that she had prayed for guidance when she went to perform Umrah in May 2022, and that her prayers to make her decisions uncomplicated were answered.

"I felt at peace; that's how I knew this is the right decision," she said.
