Director Syamsul Yusof’s mother, Datin Patimah Ismail, says she supports her daughter-in-law Puteri Sarah Liyana’s decision to file for a divorce from Syamsul.
Nonetheless, she is saddened that it has come to this.
She wrote in her Insta-story on Wednesday (Jan 18): “Mama just want Sarah to be happy, you have suffered enough.”
The wife of producer Datuk Yusof Haslam also shared encouraging words on the Insta-story, believed to be for Puteri Sarah.
“To my daughter: I wish you strength to face the challenges with confidence along with the wisdom to choose your battles carefully.
“I wish you adventure on your journey, and may you always stop to help someone along the way.
“Listen to your heart and take risks carefully. Remember how much you are loved. I am so proud of you. Love, Mum.”
Earlier this week (Jan 16), Puteri Sarah filed for divorce from Syamsul Yusof at the Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur.
Her case has been set for mention in front of the judge on March 7.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014, and have two children Syaikhul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four.
According to a report by Bernama, the 37-year-old actress said she intended to divorce her husband on the grounds that there was no more understanding between them and that they could no longer live together as husband and wife.
“This is due to pressure or interference caused by a third party or the defendant’s (Syamsul Yusof) affair that he has not returned to the matrimonial home for a long time,” she was quoted.
Her filing for divorce comes 10 days after Syamsul, 38, announced on Instagram that he married actress Ira Kazar, 27, in Thailand, and that she is his second wife.
On Jan 10, Patimah told a local news portal that the union between Syamsul and Ira had ruined the family life of Syamsul and his first wife Puteri Sarah.
Nevertheless, her family had no choice but to accept “the fate that had befallen our hapless (malang) son”, Patimah wrote on Instagram.
She added: “May God bless my grandchildren with a better father.”
