Chinese New Year is indeed a season for luck, prosperity and miracles.
On Sunday (Jan 22), Hong Kong singer-actress Nicola Cheung uploaded a photo of her family of six on Instagram.
In her post, the 46-year-old artiste revealed that her eldest daughter Lucy, 13 – who had been in a coma for 10 days – has made a remarkable recovery.
According to Cheung, Lucy had been "critically ill" 40 days prior to CNY and was admitted to the ICU.
"She (Lucy) suddenly fell ill and was suffering from influenza A. She was diagnosed with meningitis too," she wrote.
The City Of Glass star added that her daughter developed sepsis (a life-threatening medical emergency where the body's response to an infection damages its own tissues) during her stay in the hospital and had to undergo surgery as treatment.
"Everyone in the family was preparing for the worst. She was in a coma for more than 10 days in the ICU.
"But she's here today and is able to celebrate the New Year with relatives. I still can't believe it.
"When my daughter was on the brink of life and death, my husband and I witnessed extraordinary miracles that can't be explained by humans," Cheung shared.
The actress' post continued with her expressing gratitude to all the medical staff who worked tirelessly to cure her daughter.
"I'd like to thank all the staff of Queen Mary Hospital who saved my daughter – from the doctors who did the surgery and medical assessments to the pediatricians in the ICU, nurses in the children's ward and even the security of the hospital.
"The medical facilities and team in Hong Kong are so professional. I can't imagine how I'd feel today if the incident happened in another country.
"Wishing everyone a healthy and harmonious Year of the Rabbit," she concluded.
Cheung married Jeremy Young, a member of the Peak Constituency Of The Central And Western District Council Of Hong Kong, in 2007. The couple share four daughters – Lucy, 13, Lily, 12, Leah, eight and Lola, four.
