A month after confirming that he's in a relationship, Korean actor Song Joong-ki announced on Monday (Jan 30) that he has married his British girlfriend Katy Louise Saunders.
The Reborn Rich star shared the "precious and happy news" in a letter to his fans on his official fan cafe, where he also shared that Saunders, 38, is pregnant.
As translated by Korean media outlets, the 37-year-old actor wrote: “I have vowed to spend the rest of my life with Katy Louise Saunders, someone who has supported me and stuck by me.
“She has a good heart and lives her life passionately. She is amazingly wise and wonderful. Thanks to her, I am becoming a better person.
“We naturally dreamed of creating a happy family together. We have put in much effort to keep each other’s promises, and we are sincerely thankful as a new life has come to us.”
In the letter, Song also wrote that they were on their way back from registering their marriage to begin life as a married couple.
“As we are now, the two of us will walk our days ahead beautifully while facing the same direction.”
Song’s relationship with Saunders first came to light when he came to Singapore with her on Dec 7. His agency confirmed on Dec 26 that he was in a relationship with someone, but did not reveal her identity.
According to a report, Song and Saunders met through a mutual friend.
A Korean media outlet also quoted a source from Song’s agency stating that the two will spend their newlywed life between South Korea and Britain. As for a wedding, apparently "it will be held separately, though nothing has been decided just yet".
This is a second marriage for Song, who was married to Korean actress Song Hye-kyo from 2017 to 2019.
Saunders is of British and Columbian parentage, and is listed as an actress on IMDB.com.
She made her acting debut in Michele Placido’s 2002 film A Scandalous Journey and rose to fame in the 2004 movie Tre Metri Sopra Il Cielo. Her last film listed on the website is 2018 Welcome Home.
