One of the people who can’t wait for this year’s winter to be over would be Taiwanese TV presenter-actress Iris Tseng.
Tseng moved to London after getting married to a British diplomat in 2017.
Understandably, the mother of two kept the heater running to keep her family warm at her London home during the cold weather.
However, this ended with her being shocked when her monthly electricity bill came and the amount she incurred was £569 (RM3,008).
Sharing a photo of her electricity bill, Tseng revealed that the amount was 10 times higher than what she previously paid. And this was after a £200 (RM1,057) government subsidy.
She further added that the cost of electricity in Britain went up due to “war, inflation, and a shortage of energy resources”.
Her husband also apparently remarked that the huge sum was because Tseng wanted to keep their house the same temperature as in Taiwan.
To which, as translated by a Singaporean portal, Tseng sassily told her husband: “My dear, do you know that feeling of waking up in the middle of the night due to the minus five degrees cold – I really hate it. (And it makes me) want to book a plane ticket back to Taiwan immediately. You wouldn’t gain anything if I froze to death, right?”
Nonetheless, she decided to go easy on running the heater nowadays and only does it before going to bed.
Another step she’s taken to reduce that exorbitant amount is to buy an electric blanket.
But, she said, as a result "I’m now constantly lying under the electric blanket on the bed, and I hardly move at all".
